Resources and Compensation
The Section is supported by both research assistants and data scientists. Economists at the FDIC have access to a large set of proprietary economic and financial datasets, software products, and technologies for processing large amounts of data. A fully staffed onsite library provides access to electronic journals and resources. Travel and conference fees are paid for when economists present at approved conferences. Funding is available for educational materials, professional licenses and memberships, and attendance at conferences when the economist is not a presenter.
The FDIC offers a highly competitive salary, with salary ranges for specific grades above those at most other federal agencies (see the CG-12 to CG-14 bands on https://www.fdic.gov/careers/compensation and apply the Washington DC locality adjustment). Federal health insurance and highly competitive FDIC life, dental, and vision insurance benefits are provided, as well as generous retirement benefits. Responsibilities of the position include establishing or maintaining a distinguished program of research (50%) and teaching (50%) in environmental, energy, and resource economics. The successful candidate is expected to publish in top field and general economics journals. TITLE: AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness
POSITION LOCATION: Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics, North Dakota State University
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position is the AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness and is fully endowed, including a stipend and funding for graduate students and/or teaching assistants. The position is housed in the Center for Trading and Risk in the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics at North Dakota State University. The successful candidate would be tenured and hired at either the Associate or Full Professor rank, depending upon qualifications. The position is for a 9-month academic year and the split is: 70% Research, 30% Teaching.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be expected to develop leadership in the department's research and teaching programs in agribusiness with an emphasis on finance and risk analysis. Areas of emphasis could include project financial analysis (mostly in value-added agriculture), finance and risk analysis in ag technology, financial management of agribusiness firms, crop insurance, credit scoring, etc. In addition, case studies related to these topics could be developed and used in the teaching program. Teaching responsibility would depend on the needs of the department. The candidate would be expected to develop two courses, one at the undergraduate and one at the MS level, in the general areas of agribusiness with an emphasis on ag finance. These would be new courses complementary to existing courses offered in the department.
Faculty evaluations are based on successful publications in leading disciplinary journals, active participation in professional activities, effective teaching and advising at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, satisfactory service and outreach activities to the profession, state, university, and department as well as successful pursuit of extramural funding sufficient to support an active research program.
AgCountry Farm Credit Services (AgCountry), a farm credit association of the federally chartered Farm Credit System and a lender to midwestern agriculture with a large agribusiness portfolio, funds the endowment. Priorities of the Chair would be presented annually to the AgCountry’s Executive Leadership Team and Board.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements include:
1. earned Ph.D. in agricultural economics, or related disciplines;
2. experience in teaching and research in Agribusiness

OVERVIEW
Harvard University’s Opportunity Insights (OI), is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on projects with co-Directors Raj Chetty, John Friedman, Nathan Hendren, and other Research Principals. Appointment to begin July 1, 2025, renewable for a second year based on mutual agreement.
OI is a nonpartisan research and policy institute focused on improving economic opportunity. Founded in 2018, OI has become a nationally and internationally recognized leader in the science of economic mobility and in the use of large administrative data to understand and address inequality. OI has published seminal work on national trends in upward mobility; racial disparities; the role of neighborhoods, social capital, and higher education in upward mobility; and the use of private-sector data to understand disparate impacts in the recent economic recession and recovery. Much of the team’s ongoing research uses quasi-experimental methods to identify causal effects and test the predictions of economic and sociological models. Examples of current research projects include: long-term impacts of neighborhoods and place-based policies, the role of colleges in upward mobility, using big data to address health disparities, and measuring how social networks affect mobility. OI’s work has shaped policy discussions at the national and local level, with nearly a dozen of its studies covered on the front pages of major media outlets, such as the New York Times, The Economist, The Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal, and have been widely cited in policy discussions.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with OI co-Directors and other Research Principals. Fellows will be invited to work on both OI work as well as have time for their own complementary research.
We invite applications from candidates with a background in applied microeconomic research who would be eager to focus their efforts coauthoring projects with us studying economic opportunity and the determinants of upward mobility in the US. Applicants are expected to have strong analytical skills and also work well in team settings.

Responsibilities of the position include establishing or maintaining a distinguished program of research (50%) and extension (50%) in agricultural production economics. The successful candidate’s research and extension program will focus on production economics with an emphasis on livestock agriculture and its intersection with environmental management to aid producers and agribusinesses in New York and beyond. The individual filling this position will be expected to work with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate economic opportunities presented by the climate change economy as well as the economics of management practices and investments to decrease greenhouse gas emissions at the farm-level. Assistant Professor in Agricultural Economics

This is a nine-month, tenure-track position in Agricultural Economics with a 60% research and 40% teaching responsibility. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized policy-driven research program focused on issues related to agricultural policy. The John L. Ward Center for Family Enterprises at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University is seeking a full-time Post-Doctoral Fellow to develop and co-lead research projects relevant to family businesses, broadly defined, corporate governance or entrepreneurship. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will work closely with the Center’s Faculty Director (Carola Frydman, Professor of Finance), faculty affiliated with the Ward Center and pre-doctoral research assistants, and will collaborate with other Kellogg and Northwestern faculty members.
The Fellow will provide intellectual leadership and management for analytical work. This includes producing research articles, developing data projects, supporting research dissemination, and developing and participating in conferences and seminars.
The Fellowship does allow for time for work on independent research within work hours, and it therefore provides an opportunity for further developing an independent research portfolio.
The position also offers opportunities for co-authorship on publications. The Fellow will be encouraged to develop collaborative relationships with faculty at the Kellogg School of Management and other relevant departments around campus to foster the development of the Fellow’s academic career in a supportive, engaging, and diverse environment.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include developing research ideas and leading design of new research projects; contribute to strategic decisions about new initiatives; supporting ongoing research activities, including data collection and analysis; assisting in the management of ongoing research efforts, including the selection of key research personnel, such as research assistants; co-authoring research articles, progress reports and white papers; producing data of interest to practitioners and families; presenting research findings at academic meetings and conferences, and to members of family enterprises; and supporting the organization of academic conferences.
The Fellow is expected to regularly attend Kellogg research seminars consistent with their academic background and interest and will have access to the broader intellectual community and activities of the Ward Center. These activities will help develop a practical understanding of corporate governance and entrepreneurship from the perspective of family enterprises.

CBPP combines rigorous research and analysis, strategic communications, and effective advocacy to shape debates, affect policy, and inform effective implementation both nationally and in states. Over the next two years, federal and state policymakers face critical fiscal policy questions that get at the heart of where we are headed as a nation — who will get invested in, how will we finance those investments, and will we build toward a country where the economy works for everyone? In 2025, regardless of the outcomes of the elections this fall, policymakers will make a number of consequential policy decisions — from addressing expiring tax and health provisions to deciding who and what we will invest in as a nation — that will have a significant impact on the economy and the well-being of millions of people. CBPP is preparing for these debates now and will be deeply involved in shaping these decisions in ways that promote economic justice and broaden opportunity.
To further this work, CBPP seeks an economist to engage on macroeconomic, fiscal policy, and labor market issues. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator looking to bring economic analysis to real-world policies and debates that will affect the nation’s future and the lives of millions of people. The ideal candidate will also have experience in one or more of the following areas: macroeconomics, fiscal policy, labor market issues, poverty and inequality, racial equity, housing, and discrimination. This position is an excellent opportunity for an economist who wants to engage deeply and meaningfully in critical policy issues. We are interested in candidates looking to join CBPP on a permanent basis (Chief Economist) or for 18-24 months (Visiting Scholar).
The Chief Economist or Visiting Scholar will be a senior leader within CBPP’s Federal Fiscal Policy team and will serve as an advisor to CBPP leaders, including the President, and as a resource to the entire organization. The Federal Fiscal Policy team analyzes the federal budget, budget proposals, and long-term budget trends. Its tax policy work focuses on revenue adequacy, fairness, racial equity, and tax compliance as well as the impact of tax policies on the economy. It also works on issues related to the federal budget process and its rules, which can have a significant effect on the policymaking process. The Federal Fiscal Policy team includes research assistants who would be available to assist the Chief Economist or Visiting Scholar and mid- and senior-level staff with expertise in budget issues, federal taxes, Social Security and disability policy, and the U.S. territories.

Responsibilities
· Engage in key economic debates through writing, speaking, working with partners, participating in and planning convenings, talking to press, and engaging on social media.
· Partner with others at CBPP to engage with policymakers and their staff. The Chief Economist or Visiting Scholar will work on a mix of short- and long-term projects on a range of current economic debates.
· Keep abreast of the state of the economy and the latest macroeconomic data, including tracking key trends and analyzing their implications across different income and demographic groups.
· The Chief Economist or Visiting Scholar will engage on a number of potential issues. These may include:
o The advantages of strengthening the revenue base and addressing other shortcomings of our current revenue system, including its favorable treatment of high-income and high-wealth households and profitable businesses;
o The impact of federal and state fiscal and programmatic policies on labor market outcomes, particularly as they relate to marginalized populations and people in low-paying jobs and the special economic challenges they face;
o The importance of increasing public investment in people and communities, including how investments can benefit the economy overall, improve measures of well-being, and promote equity;
o The distributional and equity implications of tax and budget policies, including addressing persistent income and wealth inequality across racial and ethnic groups;
o The economic implications of the nation’s long-term federal fiscal trajectory;
o The role of monetary policy on the economy;
o Labor policies such as minimum wage, unemployment insurance, and paid leave;
o The economic impacts of economic and health security policies; and
o Trends in housing and impacts on households with low incomes.
Qualifications:
We don’t expect candidates to have expertise in all of these areas. We are seeking candidates with expertise in macroeconomics, labor economics, and some policy issues relevant to our work; a willingness to explore the economic questions in some new areas in partnership with CBPP experts; and a desire to engage in public debate to influence policymaking.
· Experience and interest in applying economic knowledge and principles to current debates;
· Ability to communicate economic principles and the impacts of government policies for non-academic policy audiences, including policymakers and media, and to help them understand how economic issues and policy decisions affect people and communities;
· Interest in working on issues that are in the public debate and that policymakers will decide on in the near-term, willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with quick-turnaround projects, and a commitment to CBPP’s mission (https://www.cbpp.org/about);
· The strongest candidates will have prior experience in engaging in national policy issues or prior experience in government or think tanks;
· Minimum ten to fifteen years of relevant experience; and

Assistant Professor in Agribusiness Finance
POSITION LOCATION: Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics, North Dakota State University
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position is a research and teaching position in the areas of agricultural finance which may include emphasis in agribusiness, cooperative, farm/ranch finance and/or risk. The position will affiliate with other colleagues in the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics in addition to activities in the Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives, the AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness and the Center of Trading and Risk, each housed in the Department.
The position is tenure-track and for a 9-month academic year and the split is: 80% Research, 20% teaching.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to initiate research in areas related to and including agricultural, agribusiness, cooperative, farm/ranch finance and/or risk. Some of this research would be collaborative with faculty working in these fields. Teaching responsibility would be 2-3 courses per year in the areas of agricultural finance, agribusiness and/or risk, depending on the needs of the department.
Faculty evaluations are based on successful publications in leading disciplinary journals, active participation in professional activities, effective teaching and advising at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, satisfactory service and outreach activities to the profession, state, university, and department as well as successful pursuit of extramural funding sufficient to support an active research program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements include:
1. earned Ph.D. in agricultural economics, or closely related disciplines. ABD candidates will be considered provided degree will be conferred before the start date.
2. experience in teaching and research in agribusiness and/or agricultural finance.
3. expertise in agribusiness finance and quantitative methods.
4. effective oral and written communication skills.
5. ability to conduct research and disseminate results in leading academic journals.
Preferred qualifications include:
1. evidence of teaching effectiveness.
2. interest and/or training in agricultural finance, agribusiness, cooperative business structures, and/or risk analysis.
3. ability to supervise MS students
4. ability to obtain extramural funding to support research activities.
5. ability to communicate research results to clientele groups.

QBCC: The Quentin N. Burdick Center for Cooperatives (QBCC) helps cooperative businesses reach their potential while being the region’s trusted source for education, outreach and research on cooperative businesses. AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness: The department is hiring a new endowed chair in agribusiness, titled AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness. This will be a senior position and will provide leadership in the field of agribusiness and finance, both in teaching and research.
NDSU: The Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics has developed strong regional support for the excellence of its teaching, research, and outreach programs.
