Associate or Full Professor in Economics and Director of the Institute for Economic Research, Faculty of Economics, Università della Svizzera italiana (USI)

The Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) is a young and lively university, a hub of opportunity open to the world where students are offered a quality interdisciplinary education in which they can be fully engaged and take center stage, and where our researchers can count on having the space to freely pursue their initiative.

Established in 1996, USI is in constant evolution, always taking on new challenges while remaining true to its three guiding principles: quality, openness, and responsibility. Facing the challenges of today’s globalized economies entails the ability to interpret and manage complexity. With professors who are at the forefront of research in their respective fields, the Faculty of Economics is the ideal venue to acquire and further develop competence, flexibility, and intellectual curiosity to identify fundamental issues and face them with creativity and talent.

The Faculty of Economics invites applications from candidates with an international research profile for a position as Associate or Full Professor in Economics. Outstanding applicants from all fields of applied economics will be considered. Particular attention will be given to candidates conducting research in one or more of these areas: regional and urban economics, public finance, labor economics, and environmental and energy economics.

The position also involves serving as Director of the Institute for Economic Research (IRE), which conducts applied research on issues of regional importance chosen in coordination with the Cantonal Department of Finance and Economy (DFE). Through its three observatories (O-Tur, O-De, O-Fpe), IRE conducts research studies and policy evaluations, serves as consultancy of cantonal policy makers and monitors the local economy, with a particular focus on the labor market, as well as the tourism sector, public sector, and the energy sector. The research activities of IRE are part of USI’s mandate from the Canton of Ticino.

1. The position

The Faculty of Economics of USI provides a young and dynamic environment with strong research competences in the areas of economics, finance, and management. The position is primarily affiliated with the Institute for Economic Research (Istituto di Ricerche Economiche, IRE) and can also be affiliated with the Institute of Economics (Istituto di Economia Politica, IdEP). Please refer to https://idep.usi.ch and https://www.ire.usi.ch/en for more information.

2. The candidate’s profile

The ideal candidate has a strong publication record in top/top-field economics journals on policy-relevant topics (including – but not restricted to – regional and urban economics, public finance, labor economics, and environmental and energy economics). Academic achievements should be complemented by a demonstrated ability to lead a research group and generate external funding. The successful candidate is fluent in Italian and willing to invest in the knowledge of the local economy of the Canton of Ticino. The required academic qualification is a doctoral degree in Economics (PhD).

USI is aware of the various and different backgrounds of its employees and, as an institution that promotes diversity and inclusion, USI particularly encourages applications by female candidates and of all under-represented groups.

3. Teaching load

The standard teaching load of 18 ECTS is reduced while the candidate serves as Director of IRE. The size of the teaching reduction will be part of the contract negotiation.

4. Residence

Professors are asked to reside in the Canton of Ticino, which is part of the Italian-speaking area of Switzerland. The new professor is expected to provide consistent participation in the academic and institutional activities of the university.

5. Salary and contract

The salary is determined in accordance with university regulations and is competitive with leading European institutions. The precise salary level will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and academic credentials.

6. Application files

The application should include the following documents:

 • Cover letter
 • Motivation letter to apply for the directorship of IRE
 • Your vision for IRE
 • Research statement
 • Teaching statement
 • Detailed CV
 • Publication list
 • Copies of three of the most representative papers

Your position
The Department of Economics, jointly with Tilburg Sustainability Center, has a vacancy for a 48 months Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics.

We are looking for an environmental economist with strong analytical and quantitative skills, programming experience in either R or python, and motivated to combine rigorous research with social impact. The researcher will develop and analyze economic models for the transition towards a circular economy. It integrates concepts such as circular life cycle assessments, material flow analyses, product as a service, into economic macro general equilibrium models, analyzing distributional effects on income, employment, and resource use across global value chains. We expect publications in top field journals, both in economics and interdisciplinary.

The position is rooted in the NWO funded ACT! project (Accelerating the Circular Transition). It aims at overcoming societal and scientific challenges for the transformation towards a circular society to tackle the existing sustainability challenges. The project develops a toolbox to study this systemic change – providing insights on policies that accelerate the transition towards a circular society.

The new researcher will be supervised by prof. Reyer Gerlagh and is hosted at the Economics department, which offers a large environmental economists group, including Prof. Sjak Smulders, Prof. Daan van Soest, Prof. Herman Vollebergh, and many junior researchers including Dr Julie Metta and Dr Etienne Lorang. The project will also include cooperations with other consortium members, in particular Leiden University, Utrecht University, and the Dutch Environmental Agency, PBL.

The dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences University of Warsaw announces a competition for the position of Assistant Professor in the project “A life course microsimulation perspective on multi-dimensional well-being for five European countries”. CHANSE "Enhancing well-being for the future"

The work of the Polish team is funded by National Science Center

Prof. Michal Brzezinski - head of the Polish team within the international consortium, which, in addition to the UW, includes CeMPA (UK), University of Barcelona (Spain), Stockholm University (Sweden) and IAB (Germany). The project leader is Prof. Matteo Richiardi, director of CeMPA (University of Essex, UK)

Well-being is a multi-dimensional concept that spans a variety of life domains and time scales, affected by variable determinants across the life course. As such, it eludes simple analytical frameworks, and calls for an integrated approach. Data limitations, however, significantly constrain empirical analyses. The relationship between subjective and objective measures of well-being is also difficult to analyse in the absence of retrospective information on individual histories and prospective information reflecting expectations for the future, all of which bear upon a broad interpretation of well-being.

Against this background, we propose a step-change in the analysis of well-being by using dynamic microsimulation methods to augment existing data sources. Preliminary analysis of interrelationships between individual well-being and multiple life domains – including work, family, and health – will be of stand-alone interest, in addition to forming the basis for integrating measures of well-being in a state-of-the-art dynamic microsimulation model. The new model will allow us to generate in silico complete life-course trajectories from existing survey data.

We propose to use our innovative microsimulation approach to analyse the distributional dynamics of well-being over the life course for five European countries, reflective of diverse welfare regimes: Germany (conservative), United Kingdom (liberal), Spain (Mediterranean), Poland (post-Communist) and Sweden (Nordic). Analysis will explore how well-being is affected by aggregate and individual crises, distinguishing between personal shocks, and macro-economic events. A key focus of research interest will be the efficacy of policy interventions designed to enhance the resilience of individual and social well-being to considered crises.

Basic responsibilities and obligations:

- Collaboration on microeconometric analysis of the determinants of well-being over the life cycle of individuals

- Collaboration in the analysis of measures of multidimensional well-being and measures of inequality in multidimensional well-being

- Developing the Polish version of the dynamic microsimulation model (model estimation, adding modules related to subjective well-being, etc.).

- Use of the dynamic microsimulation model to estimate changes in welfare over time (in cooperation with teams from other countries)

- Use of the dynamic microsimulation model to analyze the impact of labor market crises on the welfare of individuals

- Preparation of scientific publications based on the obtained research results and presentation of results at scientific conferences

- Participating in administrative and organizational work related to the project (including participation in monthly project meetings)

- Co-organization of the project meeting at the University of Warsaw

- Co-organization of meetings presenting project results to social partners

Start of work: 1 October 2025

Period of employment: 6 months with possibility of extension up to 30 months after positive evaluation

Gross annual salary of PLN 140,000 (the amount includes the employer's costs and the 13th salary)

Other working conditions:

- Budget for computer equipment and travel to conferences

- Possibility of partial remote work

- Work in an international research team (UW, CeMPA, University of Barcelona, Stockholm University, IAB) bringing together leading European centers in microsimulation and wellbeing research

- Conducting research whose results can be published in prominent scientific journals

Conditions for entering the competition:

- Fulfillment of the requirements set forth in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, i.e.).

- Doctoral degree in economic sciences obtained in an institution other than University of Warsaw (or completed at least 10 months of continuous and documented postdoctoral training at an institution other than University of Warsaw and in a country other than the country in which the doctoral degree was obtained) and in the year of employment in the project or within 7 years prior to January 1 of the year of employment in the project (the time limit from obtaining a doctoral degree for female applicants for these positions may be extended by 1.5 years for each child born or adopted).

- Knowledge of measures and ways to measure individual and social well-being in economics

- Very good knowledge of microeconometrics

- Proficient programming skills (R, Stata)

- Strong research skills in economics as evidenced by publications in good scientific journals

- International experience; significant scientific achievements; presenting a plan for further scientific activity

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a distinguished scholar to join the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) as a Full Processor (Chair) and Head of a Section within the Transportation Science Division, at the Department of Technology, Management and Economics – in short DTU Management.

The position offers a unique platform to conduct pioneering research in Human Mobility while joining DTU’s broader ecosystem of technological knowledge and innovation with the transportation sector.

The new professor will be chairing the research in human mobility and take leadership in building a group within this field and setting the academic course for the group. The department is committed to supporting this development over the coming years with significant investments. In addition to the full professorship, two new faculty positions will be added to the section (group) awaiting the new chair.

The Transportation Science Division has a strong domain knowledge of the transport sector and mobility, and is, with its broad coverage of disciplines, an internationally outstanding unit in the field of transportation science. We deliver ground-breaking fundamental research as well as research-based insights and tools for policymakers and industry professionals.

The overreaching focus is the importance of understanding human mobility and behaviour when planning and operating transportation systems and formulating policies and regulations. Human behaviour is embedded in our research on transport systems and mobility prediction models. Our research creates a foundation for policy support related to a variety of challenges in the sector, such as the green transition, mobility for all user groups, congestion and challenged land use particularly in large cities; equity, safety, and risk; and derived negative externalities of transport.

The division is interdisciplinary with scholars originating from transportation engineering, economics, psychology, computer science, social data science, machine learning, mathematics, and statistics.

The new professor has a strong proven track record in research at an international level. We expect the candidate to exhibit academic leadership, attract grants, strengthen research-based advice, and build a fruitful environment based on the professorship. Particular focus will be on our public sector support and societal impact.

You will bring the following:

 • PhD in a relevant topic and discipline related to human mobility, e.g. from Social Data Science, Network Science, Transportation Science, Economics, Geography, Physics, or Computer Science

 • Experience with or interest in scientific advice and public sector consultancy
 • A solid international stakeholder network within and beyond academia
 • An ambition to push boundaries and define future research agendas solving societal challenges
 • Solid track record in teaching as well as development course portfolios and educations in the field

You are expected to take a role in teaching at e.g. BSc, MSc, PhD, and executive level. Candidates must be enthusiastic about teaching and interacting with students at different levels and should have had successfully supervised thesis and research projects at different levels.

DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

 • Documented experience and quality of teaching and curriculum development
 • Research impact and experience, funding track record and research vision

The Institute for Macroeconomics (MEE) at the University of Bonn (mee.uni-bonn.de) is looking for at least

two postdoctoral researchers (100%).

These positions will be available starting September 1, 2026, for a period of three years.

Our research group conducts innovative research in the areas of stabilization policies, labor markets, international trade, and the role of household and firm heterogeneity, including intra-household decision-making, for the macroeconomy. The group is part of the Clusters of Excellence ECONtribute (econtribute.de) and Hausdorff Center for Mathematics (mathematics.uni-bonn.de/hcm).

The ideal candidate has an empirical or theoretical background in macroeconomics. A postdoctoral researcher needs to have completed a Ph.D. and needs to have published in leading economic journals or shows evidence of the potential to do so.

Successful candidates will join an international team of researchers at the University of Bonn. They will be embedded in the Collaborative Research Center TRR 224 (CRC), sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). They will contribute to the CRC's research program by participating in projects on macroeconomic policies and the role of heterogeneity and expectation formation in the business cycle.

The institute and the center use English as the working language. If the CRC is renewed, the position includes an almost complete teaching buyout (the teaching language would otherwise be English).

Salary and benefits will be in accordance with a public service position in Germany (E13 TV-L, full-time). Funds for travel and guests are available.

Applications, including a CV, up to two publications or research papers, and at least two confidential letters of recommendation, should be uploaded via econjobmarket.org by October 31, 2025. Interviews will be conducted online.

The Center for Advanced Studies "Finance and Inequality" (CASFI, casfi.uni-bonn.de), sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), is seeking up to

two short-term postdoctoral fellows in economics.

The positions will be available starting September 1, 2026, or later, for up to one year.

CASFI's economics branch is closely tied to the Institute for Macroeconomics (MEE) at the University of Bonn (mee.uni-bonn.de). MEE conducts innovative research in stabilization policies, labor markets, international trade, and the role of household and firm heterogeneity—including intra-household decision-making—for the macroeconomy. The institute is affiliated with the Clusters of Excellence ECONtribute (econtribute.de) and the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics (mathematics.uni-bonn.de/hcm).

Ideal candidates have an empirical or theoretical background in macroeconomics and conduct research tied to the Center’s research areas (broadly defined as inequality or finance). Requirements for a postdoctoral researcher include a Ph.D. The ideal candidate has stable employment for after the fellowship but is seeking a postdoctoral position, e.g., between finishing his or her Ph.D. and beginning an assistant professorship, or during a sabbatical.

Successful candidates are expected to contribute to the center's academic life. The center regularly hosts conferences, workshops, and a seminar series. The institute and the center use English as the working language. Although there is no teaching obligation associated with the fellowship, there are teaching opportunities.

Salary and benefits will be in accordance with a public service position in Germany (E13 TV-L, full-time) or in terms of a fellowship if the latter is preferred. Funds for travel and guests are available.

Applications, including a CV, up to two publications or research papers, and at least two letters of recommendation, should be uploaded via econjobmarket.org by October 31, 2025. Interviews will be conducted online, but later in the market once candidates have an idea about their future employment prospects.
