The Behavior, Institutions, and Development Group at Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) invites applications for two Postdoctoral Fellows in Economics, funded by the ERC Advanced Grant EvolvingEconomics awarded to Ingela ALGER.

The successful candidates are expected to conduct research on at least one of the following topics:

- Theoretical research on: moral concerns; behavioral contract theory and/or IO; preference evolution; the evolution of family structures;

- Experimental research on: moral concerns and purchasing behaviors; decision-making in strategic interactions; decision-making in the household; informal transfers;

- Empirical research on: (historical or current) data on family structures; private contributions to public goods.

The successful candidates will also be expected to participate in the research activities of the TSE thematic group Behavior, Institutions, and Development (seminars, workshops, conferences), and to organize one international event (with about 50 participants) during the fellowship. Teaching will be optional.

Besides the salary, also included in the fellowship is an office, a computer, and some funding for travel and research. Interviews (via Zoom) will take place in January 2021. The position may start at any time between July 1st and January 1, 2022.

ABOUT THE ECONOMICS & QUANTITATIVE METHODS DEPARTMENT

Our department’s faculty are actively involved in research that has led to a large number of publications in highly reputable, national and international journals, such as American Economic Review, Management Science, Journal of Econometrics, Economic Theory, European Economic Review, Experimental Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, as well as other prestigious scholarly outlets.  Our faculty work in the areas such as the measurement of the performance in production, migration and labor economics, operations management, risk theory, game theory, and applied microeconomics in general, among others. They rely on multidisciplinary approaches in their scholarly work, incorporating fields such as health economics, environmental economics, and corporate finance.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

From applicants, we expect evidence of strong teaching skills and a commitment to research excellence. Our selected applicant will be asked to teach courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or postgraduate level and also contribute to the design and development of the School’s programs. The recruited post-doc will participate to research in domains that PSE seeks to develop at the frontier with other disciplines, along four dimensions:

ENS de Lyon is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral research Fellow on a two-year, fixed term contract for research in the area of Public Economics. Anyone with strong theoretical and/or empirical skills in public economics with a particular interest in taxation and/or inequality is encouraged to apply.

The postdoc position will start on September 1st, 2021 and is funded by the French Agency of Research. The monthly gross salary is between 2000 and 2500 euros, commensurate with experience. The successful candidates will be based at Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon and will have access to research funds. The teaching load is zero. There is however a possibility of complementing the postdoc wage with some teaching activities in the Advanced Economics track of ENS de Lyon (where courses are in English).

The post-doc researcher will participate in the research project “Taxation and Inequality in a Globalized World”, which aims at investigating how governments can implement more effective redistributive policies to limit inequality and promote economic growth. This project is divided into three sub-projects:

  1. Impact of Public Policies on Inequalities.
  2. Estimation of Behavioral Responses to Taxation (firms as well as households)
  3. Theory of Optimal Taxation

The post-doc will work under the supervision of Prof. Laurent Simula and Dr Jonathan Goupille-Lebret.

Developing its research and teaching activities in the field of economics, MINES ParisTech – PSL opens an Assistant Professor position in energy economics, in environmental economics, or industrial organization.

This tenure track position is aimed at a young researcher, with an excellent academic background, but also a strong interest in applied questions. The successful candidate will develop a research program in cooperation with other CERNA researchers consistent with the laboratory’s research fields and contribute to teaching activities at MINES ParisTech– PSL. The initial contract is for 3 years and is to evolve into a permanent lecturer and researcher position. The starting date is expected in September 2021, but can be adjusted.

The successful candidate is expected to have already proven his/her ability to elaborate academic research in energy economics, environmental economics, or industrial organization. We particularly welcome applicants with good expertise in applied econometrics and applied microeconomics.

At the time of the appointment, the applicant must have a doctoral degree in economics. A post-doctoral experience, especially in a foreign laboratory, would be an advantage for this position. Paris School of Economics (PSE) is offering one Assistant Professor position in Economics on competitive terms, starting Sept 1, 2021 for a period of six years corresponding to a three year contract renewable once after a "mid-term" review. The assistant Professor will then be offered permanent positions in the French academic system following a successful tenure evaluation.

Proven research abilities are necessary and the PhD should be completed by the date of the appointment. Knowledge of French is NOT required.

The Banque de France is planning to recruit several experienced or new Ph.D.s in economics, econometrics and finance for its headquarters in Paris. This year, areas of particular interest are macroeconomics (growth and productivity, labor economics, economics of climate change, monetary economics, international economics (macro, trade, international finance), applied macroeconomics and forecasting, and applied microeconomics (innovation and R&D, industrial organization, public policy evaluation).

The Banque de France provides an excellent work and research environment. The main tasks of the potential candidates will be to conduct high-quality policy-oriented research, publishable in international refereed journals, to produce reports and briefings for the Bank’s senior management, to contribute to the Bank's publications and to the development of its modelling toolbox.

Candidates will be expected to travel and participate in meetings organized by international institutions as well as interact with the academic community in their field of expertise. Three-year fixed-term, full-time contracts are offered. Knowledge of French as a working language would be an asset but is not required. Salary and benefits vary with experience and are competitive on a European scale.
