Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University welcomes applications for two (2), full-time tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. The department is seeking candidates with strong quantitative and econometric skills with specialization in the area of Applied Microeconomics for one of the available positions, and with specialization in the areas of International Macroeconomics/Finance or Macroeconomics for the second position. Both appointments shall be effective July 1, 2021, subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, research and service duties, maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining a strong, independent, externally-funded research agenda yielding significant peer-reviewed publications; teaching and supervision at the undergraduate and graduate levels; contributing to the undergraduate and graduate programs including taking a lead role in curriculum development/expansion as appropriate; and participating in the academic life of the Department of Economics, the Faculty of Arts and the University through collegial service.

The successful candidates will have completed a PhD in Economics or a related field. Candidates who are all-but-dissertation (ABD) and are very close to completion of their PhD may also be considered. The successful candidate must present evidence of their:

  • ability to contribute to our undergraduate, masters and PhD programs through high-quality teaching, excellence in research, collegial service and participation in the academic life;
  • ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally-funded research program capable of yielding publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals;
  • excellence or the prospect for excellence in teaching, demonstrated via a statement of teaching philosophy and accomplishments;
  • strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
  • commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
  • an ability to contribute to the life of the Department, Faculty of Arts and the University through collegial service.
