Duke Kunshan University (DKU) invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in economics, beginning in the academic year 2025-2026. Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the Department of Economics.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the research project Social Mechanisms and Applications led by the Principal Investigator (PI), Professor David Levine.
The main goal of this project is to study social mechanisms and their allocations. Social norms are crucial for groups to succeed: from political parties, to labour unions, to special interest groups, even to criminal gangs. Each of these groups faces a free-rider problem: it is in the interest of each individual in the group to let the others do the work of advancing the common interest. Norms are equally pivotal in persuading individuals not to engage in anti-social behaviour, from littering, to thievery, and worse, where again a divide appears between individual goals and larger interests.
The project aims to link work in game theory to the operation of social norms in a heterogenous agents’ framework. The project will involve economists, psychologists, and computer scientists at Royal Holloway in order to understand how social norms develop and sustain themselves. The project will explain and illustrate how a willingness of individuals to bear small costs for the sake of society can be leveraged into system-wide institutional changes. The results will address both large questions that have defined the modern era – how can individuals be convinced to obey social rules that are not normally in their self-interest to follow? – and smaller puzzles of how institutions can better function. Levine does not foresee one-size-fits-all solutions. The norms that support some groups such as volunteer organizations providing health assistance to the poor promote the greater good, while in other cases, such as with special interest lobbying organizations, they can do harm. Public policies should therefore aim to foster the formation of useful social norms in some cases and to transform existing norms in other cases.
Levine’s earlier work on dynamic games has laid out the rules in economics for when self-interested agents will sacrifice current benefits for longer-term gains, provides the theoretical bridge to the present project. The team will explore more concretely how agents who interact dynamically come to learn norms and how they build productive norms in the first place. In the last decades, there has been emerging interest in algorithms to make predictions and decisions in financial markets. The project intends to add a new dimension by studying the interaction between machines and humans.
To answer these questions, a considerable innovation of the project is the use of economic experiments along with algorithmic simulations.
The project has both theoretical and empirical focusses along with subject experiments. Proven research ability in economic theory or programming knowledge of Python or related languages are desirable. Moreover, data management skills and a high level of competence in econometrics and machine learning are desired. Experience in economic experiments would also be desirable. Most of all, the successful candidate will have a great enthusiasm to conduct research on this topic.
This is a project funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The successful candidate will work 1/3 time directly on the project and 2/3 of the time on individual grant related research.
The successful candidate will work closely with the PI, Professor David Levine (Economics), and the research team including Professors: Michael Mandler (Economics), Francesco Feri (Economics), Kostas Stathis (Computer Science) and Ryan McKay (Psychology). They are expected to engage as a full member of the research team contributing to the theoretical and/or empirical analysis of social norms and economic institutions, using theoretical models, simulations, and designing and coding economic experiments, analysing causal relations, assisting with the development of the project’s output, including the preparation of outputs for journal submission.

The Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute is a research initiative housed within the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. It supports the Federal Reserve’s mandate to ensure maximum employment by conducting and promoting research into how to ensure the opportunity for participation in an inclusive economy for all Americans. Participants selected for the Institute’s Visiting Scholar program are invited to a residency at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis to pursue their research and work on projects related to the Institute's mission of increasing economic opportunity and inclusive growth.
Multiple Visiting Scholar positions are available. Dates and duration of visits are flexible, but most scholars visit for one of the following periods: a 9-month academic year, a 2-4 month term, or a brief 1-3 week visit. The program typically runs from September 1 through June 30, though summer visits are also an option. Visits are expected to be onsite in Minneapolis. The FDIC’s mission is to maintain stability and public confidence in the nation's financial system. Resources and Compensation
The Section is supported by both research assistants and data scientists. Economists at the FDIC have access to a large set of proprietary economic and financial datasets, software products, and technologies for processing large amounts of data. A fully staffed onsite library provides access to electronic journals and resources. Travel and conference fees are paid for when economists present at approved conferences. Funding is available for educational materials, professional licenses and memberships, and attendance at conferences when the economist is not a presenter.
The FDIC offers a highly competitive salary, with salary ranges for specific grades above those at most other federal agencies (see the CG-12 to CG-14 bands on https://www.fdic.gov/careers/compensation and apply the Washington DC locality adjustment). Federal health insurance and highly competitive FDIC life, dental, and vision insurance benefits are provided, as well as generous retirement benefits. The Department of Economics, jointly with Tilburg Sustainability Center, has a vacancy for a 48 months Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics.
We are looking for an environmental economist with strong analytical and quantitative skills, programming experience in either R or python, and motivated to combine rigorous research with social impact. The researcher will develop and analyze economic models for the transition towards a circular economy. It integrates concepts such as circular life cycle assessments, material flow analyses, product as a service, into economic macro general equilibrium models, analyzing distributional effects on income, employment, and resource use across global value chains. We expect publications in top field journals, both in economics and interdisciplinary.
The position is rooted in the NWO funded ACT! project (Accelerating the Circular Transition). It aims at overcoming societal and scientific challenges for the transformation towards a circular society to tackle the existing sustainability challenges. The project develops a toolbox to study this systemic change – providing insights on policies that accelerate the transition towards a circular society.
The new researcher will be supervised by prof. Reyer Gerlagh and is hosted at the Economics department, which offers a large environmental economists group, including Prof. Sjak Smulders, Prof. Daan van Soest, Prof. Herman Vollebergh, and many junior researchers including Dr Julie Metta and Dr Etienne Lorang. The project will also include cooperations with other consortium members, in particular Leiden University, Utrecht University, and the Dutch Environmental Agency, PBL.
The job can include a teaching task and/or thesis supervision, which will be consistent with the role of Postdoc. Preferences for teaching are discussed at the interview and can be part of a balanced job offer.

The position:
This is a full-time (9-month), state-funded tenure-track position. The selected individual will be a full-time faculty member of the GHMP division and support the DrPH and graduate programming in the SPH. The International Laboratory for Experimental and Behavioural Economics (BELab < https://epee.hse.ru/en/ >) at HSE University (Moscow) is undergoing an expansion, and we are currently looking for active researchers to join our group. Specifically, we invite applications for research fellow positions at both junior and senior levels.
Our lab has 26 shielded stations as well as a subject pool suitable for both offline and online experiments. At the university, there is a vibrant economics/finance research community with weekly seminars given by external speakers (online and offline) in addition to our internal seminar series.
Research funds for conference travel and experiments are provided to the researchers employed by the laboratory. Teaching is not obligatory, but teaching options might be available (for additional remuneration).
Appointed researchers are expected to publish in reputable academic journals. The position has a duration of two years, starting in 2025, with the possibility of another position being filled for one year in 2025 or 2026. A successful candidate could have a background in theoretical industrial organization, but candidates with broad interests in economic theory are encouraged to apply.
The postdoc will join a dedicated community of economics researchers at Helsinki GSE. The postdoc will be working in collaboration with our team but would also be given time for pursuing independent research. The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a Lecturer (3-year renewable term) or Senior Lecturer (5-year renewable term) position in our Applied Economics and Policy (AEP) area, with a school affiliation in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. This is an open-rank position, and the rank of the position will depend upon the qualifications of the successful candidate. The intended start date of this position is July 1, 2025. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY.
The successful candidate is expected to teach and provide Director-level leadership within the Grand Challenges Program and other programs such as the MPS, CEMS, and undergraduate business programs, with other responsibilities including advising students and participating in School service. The Grand Challenges Program is a required part of the Dyson undergraduate curriculum that provides students a unique opportunity to use their business skills to make a positive impact at a local, regional, national, or international level while addressing one or more U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It seeks to build awareness among students of the broader impacts of business on society and, in the process, to strengthen their professional and personal skills through a multi-year immersive experience. The Program includes a first-year introduction to the SDGs and problem (systems) analysis, second-year written expression courses, and a third-year pre-project course centered on “working together” in successful project work. It culminates in a client-facing experiential learning project, in which teams of seniors work under the close supervision of a member of the business faculty and of MBA or other graduate or professional students to address some of the most important societal challenges of our time.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the Grand Challenges curriculum and to provide academic leadership for the Program. The Director role includes strategic planning and communication to foster contributions from all stakeholders, including internal stakeholders such as students, staff, and administrators, and external stakeholders such as the Dyson Alumni Council and corporate or non-profit partners. The Director works closely with the many faculty teaching in the program, developing rigorous curricula, ensuring academic consistency, and promoting the resources faculty need to teach effectively.
Successful candidates will have a demonstrable record of 1) outstanding teaching in engaged-learning or project-based courses and 2) strong administrative and leadership skills in an academic setting.
Additionally, the most attractive candidate is likely to possess the following job qualifications.
· Doctorate in management, economics, strategy, organizational behavior, or a related field
· Five or more years of experience teaching engaged-learning courses in a highly-rated business program
· Experience in sustainable business, environmental and social risk management, social entrepreneurship, corporate sustainability, non-profit management, or related areas.
Additional positive factors may include academic research and publishing on management, strategy, sustainability, etc.; work experience with non-profit management and boards; and work experience relevant to staff development, fundraising, or program assessment.
It is expected that our faculty teach across multiple schools within the College of Business. The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Cornell Nolan School of Hotel Administration. Dyson houses a top-ranked undergraduate business program as well as graduate programs that award Ph.D., M.S. and M.P.S. degrees. Areas of faculty research include management; environmental, energy and resource economics; food and agricultural economics; and international and development economics. Faculty members in the Dyson School frequently collaborate with colleagues in Computer and Information Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Natural Resources, and other units on campus.

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $105,000 - $200,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
