Your position
The Department of Economics, jointly with Tilburg Sustainability Center, has a vacancy for a 48 months Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics.

We are looking for an environmental economist with strong analytical and quantitative skills, programming experience in either R or python, and motivated to combine rigorous research with social impact. The researcher will develop and analyze economic models for the transition towards a circular economy. It integrates concepts such as circular life cycle assessments, material flow analyses, product as a service, into economic macro general equilibrium models, analyzing distributional effects on income, employment, and resource use across global value chains. We expect publications in top field journals, both in economics and interdisciplinary.

The position is rooted in the NWO funded ACT! project (Accelerating the Circular Transition). It aims at overcoming societal and scientific challenges for the transformation towards a circular society to tackle the existing sustainability challenges. The project develops a toolbox to study this systemic change – providing insights on policies that accelerate the transition towards a circular society.

The new researcher will be supervised by prof. Reyer Gerlagh and is hosted at the Economics department, which offers a large environmental economists group, including Prof. Sjak Smulders, Prof. Daan van Soest, Prof. Herman Vollebergh, and many junior researchers including Dr Julie Metta and Dr Etienne Lorang. The project will also include cooperations with other consortium members, in particular Leiden University, Utrecht University, and the Dutch Environmental Agency, PBL.

The job can include a teaching task and/or thesis supervision, which will be consistent with the role of Postdoc. Preferences for teaching are discussed at the interview and can be part of a balanced job offer.

The International Laboratory for Experimental and Behavioural Economics (BELab < https://epee.hse.ru/en/ >) at HSE University (Moscow) is undergoing an expansion, and we are currently looking for active researchers to join our group. Specifically, we invite applications for research fellow positions at both junior and senior levels.

Our lab has 26 shielded stations as well as a subject pool suitable for both offline and online experiments. At the university, there is a vibrant economics/finance research community with weekly seminars given by external speakers (online and offline) in addition to our internal seminar series.

Research funds for conference travel and experiments are provided to the researchers employed by the laboratory. Teaching is not obligatory, but teaching options might be available (for additional remuneration).

Appointed researchers are expected to publish in reputable academic journals. In addition to researchers with explicit expertise in experimental/behavioural economics, we also welcome theorists with an interest in laboratory experiments (strategic interactions, industrial organization topics, and other relevant themes are possible).

The Institute for Economic Policy at Universidad Andrés Bello, Chile (FEN-UNAB) invites applicants for full-time open-rank faculty positions in Microeconomics. Job Description

The Department of Economics at McMaster University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship. This is a two-year fellowship that shall commence on July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate must either have received their doctorate since July 1, 2020, or expect to do so by December 31, 2025.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise in applied economics in a field such as labour, health, public, or international economics. The fellow will be expected to be actively involved in the daily life of the Department, and will conduct independent research related to productivity, broadly defined. A wide range of research areas will be considered, including but not limited to: human capital (including its interaction with health); immigration; labour markets; education and training; worker and institutional productivity in the health or government sectors or in specific industries; consequences of taxes and transfer programs; investment and financial markets’ international competition; and the effects of regulation and trade policies.

The Productivity Partnership is partially funding this position. Prior experience with the analysis of microdata related to productivity, especially firm or workplace data, would be an asset, particularly if the associated research is relevant to Canada.

This Postdoctoral Fellowship provides an annual stipend of $70,000, which includes the requirement to teach one 3-unit course per year. Furthermore, the Department of Economics will provide up to $8,000 to cover research expenses. These funds can be used for a variety of purposes, including purchasing computer hardware and software, acquiring technical books and journals, and covering travel expenses for conferences.

About the Project

This interdisciplinary research project examines key macroeconomic developments over the past three decades—including rising inequality, increased capital mobility, and the persistent decline in real interest rates—through the lens of cross-country and within-country heterogeneity. The project seeks to provide both empirical evidence and theoretical insight into the interconnected dynamics of these phenomena.

Key areas of investigation include:

  • The empirical relationship between household heterogeneity and international capital flows
  • The development of theoretical frameworks incorporating heterogeneous agents and limited financial commitment
  • The structural causes behind declining global interest rates
  • Explanations for persistent international economic puzzles, including the limited degree of global risk-sharing

Responsibilities:

  • To work collaboratively with the principal investigator and other members of the research team including other researchers and research assistants
  • Collaborate in the preparation of research publications
  • To contribute to the development and management of research projects as part of the overall research agenda in the ERC grant.
  • Act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on research methodologies and results

Sveriges Riksbank, located in Stockholm, is the central bank of Sweden. The Riksbank’s main tasks are to ensure that inflation is low and stable over time, contribute to the stability and efficiency of the financial system, and make sure that payments can be made.

The Research Division at the Riksbank has a vacancy for a full-time position as a Visiting Research Economist during a period of up to twelve months, with a starting date around September 2025.

Research Economists conduct research in areas of importance to central banking, with the aim to publish research papers in well-established academic journals. Research Economists also give support and advice to policy departments and to the Riksbank Executive Board. The Research Division hosts an international seminar series, organises academic conferences, and has an active visitors' program. The Riksbank is also hosting the BIS Innovation Hub Nordic Centre in Stockholm.

We particularly welcome applications from senior researchers with at least three years’ experience and a solid publication record in their field, but more junior researchers are also welcome to apply. Suitable candidates will have acquired expertise in monetary economics, macroeconomics, econometrics, financial markets, financial stability, banking, or payments. The Department of Economics is seeking to employ a Departmental Lecturer in Economics. The post is tenable for three years with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate must be available to start either immediately or by the autumn of 2025 at the latest, as the role is currently vacant.

The principal task of the Departmental Lecturer will be to work with academic colleagues in the Department of Economics and with professional colleagues within the Saïd Business School to develop teaching materials for the MSc in Applied Financial Economics course. The MAFE is a new hybrid (part on-line, part in-person) degree which is due to take its first cohort of students in 26-27. Much of the academic content, which covers topics in micro, macro and econometrics, already exists and is currently being taught on the highly successful MSc in Financial Economics (MFE). However, the content of the MFE, which has been developed for in-person teaching, needs to be adapted to the requirements of high-quality on-line learning. It is this adaptation which will form the bulk of the postholder’s responsibility in the first two years in the post. Afterwards, the postholder will be expected to continuously maintain and review the materials for the MAFE. The postholder is not expected to be expert in the entire range of subjects taught on the MFE, rather we are looking for someone who is academically flexible enough to be able to help re-organise this material into a form which on-line students will be able to digest successfully.

Reporting to the Head of Department, the postholder will be required to develop the new course in collaboration with the course Director and other academic and professional colleagues.

The Center for Inequality and Open Society (CIOS) at the Faculty of Law, Charles University, is seeking candidates for two full-time Assistant Professor positions in Empirical Legal Studies or Applied Economics (Law and Economics, Economics of Crime and Criminal Justice) starting in Fall 2025 or earlier. English is the only language required. Senior scholars are also welcome to apply.

We seek candidates with excellent research backgrounds to strengthen our research group, which focuses on disparities in judicial decisions, their causes, consequences, and remedies. Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research team working in the fields of empirical legal studies, economics, and psychology.

Candidates will have sufficient flexibility to pursue their research interests, including grant applications, provided their work aligns with the mission of CIOS and aims for publication in top peer-reviewed journals.

Contract terms and core duties

The initial contract will be for three years, ending in December 2028. Subject to a successful review by the International Scientific Advisory Board of CIOS, the candidate is expected to be offered a contract extension, which includes a pathway to a permanent position. The salary is up to EUR 3,300 per month (net salary of approximately EUR 2,500) plus publication bonuses.

Eligibility criteria

● The quality and relevance of the candidate’s research output and agenda.

● A background in Empirical Legal Studies, Law and Economics, Applied Economics, or Law and Psychology.

● Willingness and ability to reside in Prague throughout the contract.

● Experience with empirical research, particularly experiments (laboratory, correspondence, and field), is advantageous.

● Potential to become a permanent core faculty member and contribute to CIOS and the Faculty of Law, Charles University, over the long term.

● While not required, knowledge of Czech or a willingness to learn it would be considered an advantage.

About CIOS, the department

The main objective of the newly established Center for Inequality and Open Society at the Faculty of Law, Charles University is to create a cutting-edge academic hub, which will develop and support interdisciplinary research teams studying issues related to current and future challenges facing the open society. Research within CIOS will be primarily oriented towards challenges and application solutions to inequality issues, in particular in the context of technological development and innovation in goods and services markets as well as in public administration.

Our current research projects focus on three major areas: (i) democracy and public discourse in the age of social media, (ii) equality before the law, disparities in judicial decision-making and the possibilities of their mitigation, and (iii) issues of inequality and protection of vulnerable persons.

The successful candidate will have expertise in analyzing and addressing economic issues in the agricultural sector. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills to evaluate agricultural markets and policy impacts. Experience in quantitative modelling and data analysis with the ability to apply these techniques to real-world agricultural issues is desired. Excellent communication skills are essential for translating complex economic concepts into practical insights for diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, farmers, and community organizations. Evidence of the potential to become a high-quality teacher-scholar and to operate as a team player in a collegial environment is also required. Preference will be given to those with expertise in one or more research areas including international trade, agri-business, or agricultural production.

Successful candidates will be expected to engage in the following areas:

Teaching: Deliver a mix of three (per year) undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural economics or agribusiness that align with the candidate’s expertise and interests.

Research: Conduct high-quality research and publish research findings in reputable peer- reviewed journals. The candidate will also be expected to actively pursue external funding opportunities to support research activities and to build a strong research program.

Mentorship: Provide mentorship and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students, including supervision of graduate research projects and theses. Encourage student involvement in research activities and facilitate opportunities for experiential learning of agricultural issues.

Service: Willingness to engage in service activities within the department, university, and broader academic community. Contribute to departmental initiatives, participate in academic committees, and actively collaborate with industry partners, government agencies, and relevant stakeholders.

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics focuses its research and teaching around applied economics, agribusiness and agri-food policy, and economic analysis for the agriculture and resource sectors. We will investigate the formation of systems of misbeliefs (“alternative realities”), how these interact with the observed reality, and how they shape economic behavior and outcomes.

The positions will be based at the Department of Economics at Central European University for the duration of two years. The position will start August 1, 2025 or possibly earlier. You will be working as an integral part of a larger research team studying misbeliefs, spanning economics and cognitive science. The Principal Investigator for this project is Adam Szeidl. Team members include Christoph Drobner, Marc Kaufmann, Mats Köster, and Ferenc Szucs.

Qualifications

· Completed or are close to obtaining a PhD in economics or a related field.

· Expertise and research background in either behavioral economic theory or experimental economics including lab, field, or online experiments.

· Experience with or interest in text analysis / machine learning an advantage but not required.

· Evidence of the capacity to prepare excellent publications.

· Commitment to high quality research.

· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

· Effective written and verbal communication and time management skills.

· Fluency in English.

Research Assistant, Animal Welfare Economics Working Group

The Animal Welfare Economics Working Group invites applications for a part-time research fellow (5-10 hours per week). The successful candidate will build a dataset library and help with other academic infrastructure projects. The position is ideal for doctoral students who are looking for remote work that can facilitate research in a growing area of inquiry (though the individual must be authorized to work in the United States). The start date is flexible, with some preference for starting before April 2025. This is a project-based contractor position. Compensation starts at $50/hour, commensurate with experience.

The Animal Welfare Economics Working Group exists to coordinate and support an international, interdisciplinary network of researchers, bringing together economists, legal scholars, philosophers, and many others. The Working Group is interested in theoretical research on including losses or benefits to animals in economic analyses, applied empirical work on the effects of policies or industry structure on animal welfare, and anything else within the purview of economics as it relates to the well-being of animals reared for food and fiber, kept as companions or in zoos, and living in the wild.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the fields of Economics, Social Sciences, or Ecology to join an interdisciplinary research project titled Indigenous Communities and Species Conservation: Examining the Role of Nature-Based Practices in Promoting Ecosystem Services. This project delves into the intersection of indigenous traditions and biodiversity conservation, with a focus on a pastoral community in India. This is an opportunity to work on an exciting new project.

The Research Assistant will support the Project Leader Federico Rossi and his collaborators in the successful execution of the project “Human Capital, the Organization of Production and Economic Development”, funded by an ERC/UKRI Starting Grant 2023. The project will leverage micro-level data from multiple countries and novel theoretical frameworks to shed light on how the accumulation and utilization of different types of skills is shaped by and can facilitate the adaptation to some of the most pressing challenges faced by the global economy: population ageing, climate change, and the reallocation of workers across economic activities.

The position is particularly suitable for someone interested in pursuing a PhD in Economics or related fields. Pre-doctoral Research Assistants previously working on this project have been admitted to prestigious PhD programs at New York University and Imperial College London..

The post is initially for 1 year in the first instance, with the possibility to renew it for a second year.

We require an individual who has an interest in the research area, who is pro-active and willing to work as part of a team.

The work will involve collecting and harmonizing micro-level data from countries at different levels of development to construct novel facts on the accumulation and utilization of human skills in a variety of contexts. The Research Assistant will also collaborate to the development and estimation of theoretical models that will be used to assess the impacts of several educational and training policies on economic development. The job will involve close collaboration and frequent interactions with the Project Leader and his collaborators.

Rethink Priorities’ Animal Welfare Department is a hub and platform that advances and pioneers evidence-based and reason-driven change for animals. The department seeks to hire a Senior Researcher to help fulfill our mission of accelerating the end of factory farming and reducing the suffering of animals living in the wild. The Senior Researcher would play a leading role in each of our core programs:

Research: We accelerate the development of evidence-based findings and insights for those working towards a better future for animals.

Stakeholder engagement: We build meaningful connections to support better-informed decision-making of advocates, charitable organizations, and others improving animal welfare worldwide.

Infrastructure development: We experiment and scale up novel approaches to help the most neglected animals and strengthen the capacity of the animal welfare movement.

  • The types of tasks involved in the role: Within the first year, you are likely to do most of the following at least once:
    • Conduct a literature review to get a better sense of the scale of an issue negatively affecting animals
    • Model the cost-effectiveness analysis on an intervention to reduce animal suffering
    • Identify and interview experts to address questions that cannot be easily answered by consulting academic or grey literature.
    • Deliver an oral presentation on your recent work at a conference, and network with other attendees.
    • Help organize a coordination event to help the animal movement prioritize which issues to tackle next.
  • What sorts of topics you would work on: Check out the executive summaries of our reports on investments into insect farming, institutional meat reduction campaigns, and labeling restrictions for alternative proteins to get a sense of the types of questions you would investigate. Many of our projects are self-generated, based on ideas that we believe deserve more attention, while others are requested directly from mission-aligned philanthropic or advocacy organizations.
  • What makes this a "Senior" role:
    • The level of autonomy: You have the experience to execute projects with minimal oversight. While you have many colleagues you can consult, you will take the initiative to learn how to do tasks you have not done before.
    • The opportunity to provide strategic input: Department leadership will often consult you on decisions of strategic importance, such as which projects to work on.
    • Your demonstrated ability to tailoring outputs to decision-makers: You have conducted research that is aimed at influencing stakeholders other than your peers. As part of that experience, you have elicited the needs of your main audience early on during projects, and have adjusted the presentation to ensure that the key insights are easy for them to find and understand.

The successful candidate will report directly to Senior Research Manager William McAuliffe and collaborate with the entire Animal Welfare department.

As a Senior Researcher, you will play a key role in designing, conducting, and communicating high-quality research that informs and guides animal welfare leaders, organizations, policymakers, and charitable foundations in developing strategies to improve animal welfare.

In line with this overarching mission, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with external stakeholders to identify how to create deliverables to their preferred specifications.
  • Building Fermi estimates and forecasts, explicitly incorporating uncertainty.
  • Drafting well-written reports from inception to delivery, with minimal oversight.
  • Ensuring that projects remain on track, and proactively identify mitigation measures when barriers arise.
  • Assessing how sociopolitical and economic developments may pose threats or opportunities for animals

  • At least one past role where a key responsibility involved liaising with external stakeholders to ensure that your research outputs are tailored to their needs.
  • Comfort with using consequentialist moral frameworks and assessing opportunities in terms of their marginal cost-effectiveness.

Nice to have

  • Experience working in or volunteering for the animal advocacy movement
  • Knowledge about politicians, parties, and policies in a jurisdiction that produces or consumes a large number of animals.
  • Knowledge of methods for assessing sentience and welfare in nonhuman animals.
  • Expertise in supply chains for farmed-raised food or feed (e.g., import markets for aquaculture products).

What We Offer

Compensation

  • The annual salary for this full-time position ranges from $90,000 to $106,000 USD pre-tax (based on a 40-hour workweek). For part-time roles, the salary will be prorated, with a minimum requirement of 32 hours per week.
  • The exact salary will be based on the candidate’s prior relevant experience and corresponding title level, and calculated using RP’s salary algorithm.
  • Compensation is not restricted to USD, and can be offered in other currencies based on currency rates set in RP's salary algorithm, and in accordance with any applicable legal or regulatory requirements.

Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Global Health Management & Policy (DrPH Program)

The School of Public Health (SPH) at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to support the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program in the Division of Global Health Management and Policy (GHMP). The SDSU School of Public Health (SPH) is ranked in the top 15% in the nation and third in California. The SPH is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and GHMP is a member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration.

The position:

This is a full-time (9-month), state-funded tenure-track position. The selected individual will be a full-time faculty member of the GHMP division and support the DrPH and graduate programming in the SPH. The individual will continue to build an independent research agenda. The faculty is expected to teach DrPH-required courses related to health economics, health policy, health systems strengthening, as well as other SPH/GHMP graduate courses as appropriate. Additional responsibilities include course development, thesis/dissertation supervision, field practice supervision, and services to the School, College, University, and communities.

The DrPH Program was launched in Fall 2024 with an inaugural cohort of 18 DrPH students. The purpose of the DrPH Program is to train leaders and executive managers to guide public health efforts, both public and private, in the State of California, the United States, and globally. The DrPH includes two concentrations (Executive Management and Global Health Management) and is structured as a hybrid-modality cohort model for 48 academic credits involving both synchronous and asynchronous coursework. This Research Assistant (CAGE) position will assist Dr Amrita Kulka and Dr Nikhil Datta in the successful execution of their Big Data project “Planning and the UK Housing System” funded and supported by CAGE. CAGE is an established research centre based in the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick, and has recently been awarded £7.1 million by the Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC) to continue its research programme for the next five years.

In the face of plummeting housing affordability in the UK, the overall project examines multiple dimensions of the UK housing and planning system, with several sub-projects addressing different policy-relevant questions. These include topics centred around the role of the planning system in reducing housing supply and affordability, generating market power in the housing market as well as questions related to the role of information flows in housing search. The Department of Economics is looking for a committed, curious and ambitious person for a three-year position as a PhD candidate.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-quality international research across a range of economic topics. We are looking for candidates who wish to conduct research in one of the areas of research at the department. Our main research profile is in the areas of applied microeconomics, such as public economics, political economy, and behavioral economics. Other areas are environmental and resource economics, development economics, international economics, macroeconomics and finance.

We currently have 23 academic staff members, 700 students, and three administrative employees. You will become part of an active and inclusive group of PhD candidates at the department. Through the PhD programme, you will also interact and engage with PhD candidates from other departments at the Faculty of Economics and Management.

Duties of the position

The main goals of the PhD position are competence building and research training, and you will be admitted to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Economics and Management.

  • take part in an organized programme which includes high level training in relevant topics and research methodology
  • present you own research at national and international scientific conferences

The Department of Economics aims to conduct research at a high international level. Contact with universities and researchers abroad is an important part of this, and we encourage our PhD candidates to spend one or two semesters abroad during their degree.

Required selection criteria

In order to be qualified for this position you must have

  • completed (or be in the process of completing) a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 ECTS) in Economics or Finance
  • a strong academic background from your previous studies and have an average grade from your Master's degree study, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared to NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation.
  • have completed a combination of subjects giving you solid methodological knowledge in econometrics
  • be proficient in English

Master's students can apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented before starting the position.

Salary and conditions

In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will be NOK 536 200,- per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.

The employment period is 3 years.

For employment as a PhD Candidate, it is a prerequisite that you gain admission to the PhD programme in Economics and Management within three months of your employment contract start date, and that you participate in an organized doctoral programme throughout the period of employment.

Responsibilities:

The Department of Economics in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks to fill a full-time non-tenure track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor. The appointment will be on Northeastern’s Boston campus to begin in Fall 2025.

Responsibilities include teaching six (6) courses per academic year, advising students, participating in department, college, and university service activities, and engaging in professional development.
