Position Introduction

We are seeking multiple highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join an interdisciplinary research team engaged in a close collaboration with a leading global ride-hailing platform. This ambitious project aims to advance our understanding of digitalmarketplace design by studying the interactions between customers and drivers, as well as the platform’s operational and strategic choices.

A defining strength of this collaboration is access to exceptionally rich, high-resolution proprietary data from the platform. Thisunique dataset supports rigorous empirical analysis and enables high-fidelity modeling and simulation of marketplace dynamics at scale. Research topics span a broad set of questions, including how pricing strategies, incentive structures, dispatch algorithms, and service quality shape the behavior and outcomes of customers, drivers, and the platform itself.

We welcome applicants with strong backgrounds in causal inference, structural estimation, advanced machine learning, andsimulation. We are especially interested in scholars eager to apply cutting-edge methods to real- world data to uncover insightsthat are both academically rigorous and practically actionable. The overarching goal is to inform the design of smarter, more equitable, and more efficient platform ecosystems.

The position will be formally affiliated with the School of Management and Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen). The postdocs will be supervised by Prof. Yiming Zhang of CUHK-Shenzhen. The research team includes the following faculty from other institutions: Prof. Qiuping Yu (Georgetown), Prof. Yong-Pin Zhou (University of Washington), and Prof. Yunan Ji (Georgetown).

Since 2018, our research team has maintained a close collaboration with this ride-hailing platform. Our prior work has focused onthe design and optimization of virtual queuing systems, combining large-scale randomized field experiments with structural modeling to generate actionable insights. Research from this partnership has been published in Management Science and receivedmultiple awards, including the MSOM Service Management SIG Best Paper Award, INFORMS Service Science Best Paper Award, and the CSAMSE Best Practice Award. Notably, our recommended strategies were adopted platform-wide and led to an 80% improvement in customer experience.

Research Team

• Prof. Yiming Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at the School of Management and Economics, TheChinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. His research focuses on platform operations. He has extensive collaborationexperience with platform firms including the ride-sharing, food delivery, and logistics platforms. His work has been published in Management Science and has received several best paper awards.
• Prof. Qiuping Yu is an Associate Professor of Operations Management and Business Analytics at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. Her research explores how digital and service platforms can improve operational efficiencyand equity by harnessing real-world behavioral data from both consumers and workers. She employs a range of methods—including large-scale field experiments, structural modeling, and machine learning—to generate actionable insights on platform design, labor scheduling, and fairness across sectors such as ridesharing, retail, restaurants, customer service, and law enforcement. Her work has been published in leading academic and practitioner outlets, including Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Harvard Business Review, and Brookings Research Briefs in Economic Policy, and has been featured in major media such as The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg Businessweek.
• Prof. Yong-Pin Zhou is a Professor of Operations Management at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington.His research interests lie in the analytical modeling and data analysis of service systems, with a recent focus on digital platforms. His work has been published in leading journals including Management Science, Operations Research, Marketing Science, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award and multiple best paper awards.
• Prof. Yunan Ji is an Assistant Professor of Strategy at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. Her research lies in the intersection of industrial organization and public economics, with a focus on health care markets. Her work has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, PNAS, among others.

Qualifications:

1. A Ph.D. (obtained or soon to be obtained) in Economics, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
2. Strong training in econometrics and machine learning; proficient programming skills in Python, R, Stata, MATLAB, or similar tools.
3. For Economics candidates: Demonstrated ability or strong potential for conducting research in empirical industrial organization and/or applied microeconomics with a trajectory toward publication in top-tier economics journals.
4. For OM and IE candidates: Demonstrated ability or strong potential for publishing research in top-tier academic journalson topics related to platform economy, behavioral decision-making, and operations management.
5. Good communication skills and previous experience collaborating with industry is a plus.

Position Details.

Job Position: Post Doc Fellows.

Duration: Two years.

The Department of Economics, jointly with Tilburg Sustainability Center, has a vacancy for a 48 months Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics.

We are looking for an environmental economist with strong analytical and quantitative skills, programming experience in either R or python, and motivated to combine rigorous research with social impact. The researcher will develop and analyze economic models for the transition towards a circular economy. It integrates concepts such as circular life cycle assessments, material flow analyses, product as a service, into economic macro general equilibrium models, analyzing distributional effects on income, employment, and resource use across global value chains. We expect publications in top field journals, both in economics and interdisciplinary.

The position is rooted in the NWO funded ACT! project (Accelerating the Circular Transition). It aims at overcoming societal and scientific challenges for the transformation towards a circular society to tackle the existing sustainability challenges. The project develops a toolbox to study this systemic change – providing insights on policies that accelerate the transition towards a circular society.

The new researcher will be supervised by prof. Reyer Gerlagh and is hosted at the Economics department, which offers a large environmental economists group, including Prof. Sjak Smulders, Prof. Daan van Soest, Prof. Herman Vollebergh, and many junior researchers including Dr Julie Metta and Dr Etienne Lorang. The project will also include cooperations with other consortium members, in particular Leiden University, Utrecht University, and the Dutch Environmental Agency, PBL.

The job can include a teaching task and/or thesis supervision, which will be consistent with the role of Postdoc. Preferences for teaching are discussed at the interview and can be part of a balanced job offer.

The dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences University of Warsaw announces a competition for the position of Assistant Professor in the project “A life course microsimulation perspective on multi-dimensional well-being for five European countries”. CHANSE "Enhancing well-being for the future"

Prof. Michal Brzezinski - head of the Polish team within the international consortium, which, in addition to the UW, includes CeMPA (UK), University of Barcelona (Spain), Stockholm University (Sweden) and IAB (Germany). The project leader is Prof. Matteo Richiardi, director of CeMPA (University of Essex, UK)

Well-being is a multi-dimensional concept that spans a variety of life domains and time scales, affected by variable determinants across the life course. As such, it eludes simple analytical frameworks, and calls for an integrated approach. Data limitations, however, significantly constrain empirical analyses. The relationship between subjective and objective measures of well-being is also difficult to analyse in the absence of retrospective information on individual histories and prospective information reflecting expectations for the future, all of which bear upon a broad interpretation of well-being.

Against this background, we propose a step-change in the analysis of well-being by using dynamic microsimulation methods to augment existing data sources. Preliminary analysis of interrelationships between individual well-being and multiple life domains – including work, family, and health – will be of stand-alone interest, in addition to forming the basis for integrating measures of well-being in a state-of-the-art dynamic microsimulation model. The new model will allow us to generate in silico complete life-course trajectories from existing survey data.

We propose to use our innovative microsimulation approach to analyse the distributional dynamics of well-being over the life course for five European countries, reflective of diverse welfare regimes: Germany (conservative), United Kingdom (liberal), Spain (Mediterranean), Poland (post-Communist) and Sweden (Nordic). Analysis will explore how well-being is affected by aggregate and individual crises, distinguishing between personal shocks, and macro-economic events. A key focus of research interest will be the efficacy of policy interventions designed to enhance the resilience of individual and social well-being to considered crises.

Basic responsibilities and obligations:

- Collaboration on microeconometric analysis of the determinants of well-being over the life cycle of individuals

- Collaboration in the analysis of measures of multidimensional well-being and measures of inequality in multidimensional well-being

- Developing the Polish version of the dynamic microsimulation model (model estimation, adding modules related to subjective well-being, etc.).

- Use of the dynamic microsimulation model to estimate changes in welfare over time (in cooperation with teams from other countries)

- Use of the dynamic microsimulation model to analyze the impact of labor market crises on the welfare of individuals

- Preparation of scientific publications based on the obtained research results and presentation of results at scientific conferences

- Participating in administrative and organizational work related to the project (including participation in monthly project meetings)

- Co-organization of the project meeting at the University of Warsaw

- Co-organization of meetings presenting project results to social partners

Start of work: 1 October 2025

Period of employment: 6 months with possibility of extension up to 30 months after positive evaluation

Gross annual salary of PLN 140,000 (the amount includes the employer's costs and the 13th salary)

Postdoctoral Researcher in Macroeconomics (m/f/d)

with an interest in overlapping generations (OLG) and heterogeneous agents models at the earliest possibility. You will work on the implications of population aging on labor supply, saving behavior and economic growth in Europe, conditional on the organization and financing of European social systems such as pensions, healthcare and long-term care. Experience with European data sets relating to the above topics and knowledge about structural modelling are especially welcome.

Your Work Environment

You will work on a large-scale international project funded by the European Commission. Your colleagues are in Munich, Brussels, Copenhagen, Paris, Madrid and Montreal. You will be interacting with other projects in the Institute funded by the Max Planck Society, the European Commission, and the US National Institute on Aging. Our research includes international comparisons as well as country-specific analyses, especially Germany and other European countries.

Your Profile

• Ph.D. or close to finishing your Ph.D. in economics or a related field,
• Ability to work with OLG and similar models and to extend them to incorporate additional features such as heterogeneity in health and long-term care needs and provision,
• Experience in handling micro and macro data sets to calibrate such models,
• Strong interest in public economics and economic policy analysis,
• Programming experience in Matlab and STATA (or similar software),
• Fluency in English is required.

You will be expected to produce rigorous research and policy work to help the senior management to make better policy decisions for all Canadians. The International Laboratory for Experimental and Behavioural Economics (BELab < https://epee.hse.ru/en/ >) at HSE University (Moscow) is undergoing an expansion, and we are currently looking for active researchers to join our group. An important focus of the position is to develop and lead a research team focused on applying quantitative tools (e.g., statistics, machine learning, optimization, simulation) to healthcare delivery, healthcare operations and healthcare management as well as medical decision support. Your role is to build, extend and collaborate with hospitals and regional authorities, the healthcare industry, and interdisciplinary research teams. Through this, you will help to shape the faculty’s strategy in health-focused quantitative research and innovation.

We are seeking an academic leader with a strong publication record and proven success in acquiring external funding and demonstrated interest in healthcare applications. We are also looking for a potential leader with a collaborative mindset and a passion for bridging theory and real-world healthcare challenges.

Responsibilities and qualifications

As our new professor, you will be instrumental in advancing our department's teaching and research in healthcare analytics and management science.

We are looking for candidates in industrial engineering, operations research, computer science, economics, or a related field. You must have demonstrated track record with publications in recognised and leading journals based on experience in developing and applying advanced analytical methods. We focus on strong expertise in mathematical modelling, optimisation, machine learning, and data-driven decision-making.

As professor you will be responsible for the teaching of courses as well as course design and development. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

POSITION LOCATION: Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics, North Dakota State University

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position is the CHS Chair in Risk Management and Trading.

This is a faculty position in the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics, and the successful candidate will also serve as the Director of the Center for Trading and Risk. The successful candidate would be tenured and hired at either the Associate or Full Professor rank, depending upon qualifications. The position is for a 9-month academic year, and the split is 70% research and 30% teaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to develop leadership in the department's research and teaching programs in agribusiness with an emphasis on commodity trading, agricultural markets, and risk. Focus areas may include logistics, commodity derivatives including futures and options, and agricultural technology. Teaching responsibility would depend on the needs of the department and the Center. The candidate would be expected to teach two courses in commodity marketing, or related courses, with an emphasis on risk.

Faculty evaluations are based on successful publications in leading disciplinary journals, active participation in professional activities, effective teaching and advising at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, satisfactory service and outreach activities to the profession, state, university, and department, and successful pursuit of extramural funding sufficient to support an active research program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum requirements include:

1. earned Ph.D. in agricultural economics, or related disciplines;

2. experience in teaching and research in Agribusiness or Commodity Trading and Risk;

3. expertise in agribusiness risk and quantitative methods;

4. effective oral and written communication skills;

5. demonstrated ability to conduct research and disseminate results in leading academic journals.

Preferred qualifications include:

1. evidence of teaching effectiveness;

2. ability to supervise MS and Ph.D. students;

3. ability to obtain extramural funding to support research activities;

4. ability to communicate research results to clientele groups;

5. demonstrated consistent and excellent contributions to research and publication, and scholarship; and

6. a record of externally funded research in agricultural economics, agribusiness, finance and/or risk analysis.
